Photochromic lenses darken in response to UV light. However, most modern car windscreens and some clear helmet visors incorporate UV filters that block much of this light.

This means the lenses may not darken effectively inside your car or behind a UV-filtering helmet visor.

 They work best when directly exposed to sunlight outdoors.
